For example, a .doc file will open with Microsoft Word, and a .bmp will open by default with Microsoft Paint. These associations are retained in the registry. If Microsoft Windows is unable to run .exe, .bat, .com, .reg, .cmd and so forth, then file association has to be repaired [1].
