The major festival is the Toronto International Film Festival and is considered one of the most important events in North American film, showcasing Hollywood films, cinema from around the world, and Canadian film.
Although Canadian films have often received critical praise, and the National Film Board has won more Academy Awards than almost any other institution (for both their animation and documentary work), it is almost a national joke that Canadian films fail to make back their production costs at the box office.

Canada is a country of 32 million inhabitants that occupies the northern portion of the North American continent, and is the world's second largest country in area.
Canada was also an important battlefield in the Seven Years' War, during which Great Britain gained control of Quebec City after the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759, and Montreal in 1760.
Canada's economy grew in the aftermath of the Second World War, and its policies increasingly turned to social welfare, including hospital insurance, old-age pensions, and veterans' pensions.
