Alaska has three localities named "Fire Island." One is a small island, 0.1 mile long, located in Kashevarof Passage on the north coast of Prince of Wales Island at 56 degrees 14 minutes N, 133 degrees 03 minutes W.
Another Fire Island at 53 degrees 56 minutes N, 168 degrees 02 minutes emerged in 1883, forming a companion island to Bogoslof volcano (known as early as 1768 as Ship Rock). Originally, Fire Island was named New Bogoslof (also, Grewingk, after an Alaskan geologist).
