According to astrological theory, fire signs represent the life-giving and vital force of the zodiac. The fire signs are terned positive and extroverted, and are supposed to be active, dynamic and highly energetic. The worst qualities of fire signs are seen as their tendency to be irresponsible, overbearing, impatient and boastful. They can also supposedly find it very hard to deal with detail because of their quest for the "big picture". Because astrology holds that fire signs are frequently highly outspoken, they can prove too much for more sensitive types of people. They are supposedly by nature emotional rather than intellectual and quick to anger if they disapprove, but, unlike water signs, very quick to forgive and not sensitive to criticism.


In relationships, fire signs are supposed to be generally extremely outgoing and passionate friends, but typically they are seen as requiring a great deal of love from their partner because of their assertive quality, and not liking their partner to control. Though said to be more passionate and committed under the right circumstance than air signs, fire signs are said to be barren signs. This is probably because their focus on being centre stage or on searching for truth intensely, combined with their often gregarious and friendly nature, means fire signs have trouble committing themselves to a lifelong marriage because they supposedlyalways want to be free from this type of burden. People with few or no planets in fire signs are believed by astrology to generally lack self-confidence and often to be over-pragmatic and to have trouble acting when required to.
