The MIG-31 FireFox itself is an aircraft with advancements yet to be seen together in any modern aircraft. The FireFox is capable of sustaining speeds of Mach-6 due via two gargantuan engines, both of which providing over 50,000lbs of thrust per. The FireFox is stealth in that it is invisible to radar, however the massive engines can still be tracked by infrared guidance systems. FireFox's most dangerous technology, is its thought controlled weapon system. According to the novel by Craig Thomas it is adapted from technology originally invented to allow handicapped persons to operate a whell chair hands free. This system adapted to FireFox allows the pilot to use his thought impulses to track and attack targets. Thus giving him a considerable speed advantage in combat. However this system was devloped by russians, and designed to understand the russian language. Thus requiring to pilot to think in russian to make use of this feature. FireFox was armed with twin 30 millimeter cannons under the cockpit. As well as an array of air to air missiles. For defense, twin pods in the wings fired explosives backward to knock out pursuing missiles. Or in the case of Mitchel Gant, the second FireFox. All of these weapons could be controlled by thought impulse. The original Mig-31 showcased on the Craig Thomas novel resembled a modified Mig-25 "Foxbat". However a new model was created for the movie itself. This model has a slight resemblence to the abortive delta-winged XB-70 Supersonic bomber of the United States Air Force. Hinting that there may have been some shared inspiration from the design of one to the other. Interestingly, none of these changes seemed to offend Craig Thomas. As his sequel "FireFox Down" written later is dedicated to Clint Eastwood the "Pilot of the FireFox" This novel showcases an aircraft which is nearly identical to the movie version on its cover. The Mig-31 was designed largely by desident Jews, who later helped Mitchell Gant steal the plane. Thus allowing them to deal a devestating blow to the Soviet Union. The death of these scientists, and the loss of the second FireFox left the soviets with no fruits for their labor.

Firefox (1982) (2842 words)
It’s was a great movie with a solid story, thoroughly enjoyable except for the shocking and equally depressing finale.
The thing about Firefox is that by the time Gant reaches the jet, you’ve invested so much time in the viewing that it would be pointless to not hang with it until the conclusion.
As is often the case with movies from the 80’s, I’ve pretty much come to expect a certain level of video defects.
