History

While Serbia and Montenegro were part of the socialist Yugoslavia, their top league was the Yugoslav First League. When SFRY dissolved, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was formed in 1992 and the Serbian and Montenegrin teams played in this league, although it was still named Yugoslav First League. In 2003 the FR Yugoslavia was renamed to Serbia and Montenegro and the football league followed suit. Similarly to Serbia, Montenegro was under the rule of the Ottoman Turks for the duration of their reign in the Balkans.
Montenegro was the only Allied country in World War I to be annexed to another country at the end of the war.
First partitioned in 1913 between Serbia and Montenegro, Kosovo was then incorporated into the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later named Yugoslavia) after World War I. During World War II, parts of Kosovo were absorbed into Italian-occupied Albania.

Serbia and Montenegro are bounded on the north by Hungary, on the east by Romania and Bulgaria, on the south by Albania and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), and on the west by Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Serbia and Montenegro was absorbed in the wars that gripped the Balkan Peninsula in the early 1990s, and environmental issues were largely ignored.
Serbia and Montenegro’s energy policy was centered on an ambitious program to convert the entire country to natural gas, exploiting small deposits of natural gas in the Vojvodina region of Serbia and access to Russian natural gas pipelines.
