Fishing town or Fishing City(Simplified Chinese: 钓鱼城; Traditional Chinese: 釣鱼城;Pingyin: diaoyucheng), be called “oriental Mecca” also be called “the Place Breaking off the God's Whip”, is one of the three ancient battlefields in China. It is famous for its resistance to Mongolian Yuan Dynasty army in later Sung dynasty. Mongolia launched the aggressive war to Sung dynasty, in the 13th century. Fishing town experience fights more than 200 times from AD1243 to AD1279. The town creates the miracle of "the persistence resist war for 36 years" in war history. The Ancient Fishing Town covers an area of 2.94 square kilometers. Situated on a hill surrounded by water on three sides about five kilometers east of Hechuan County seat, it lies near the confluence of Qujiang, Fujiang and Jialing rivers. The terrain there is precipitous and the landscape is beautiful. About seven hundred years ago, Yu Jian built this fortress town to fight against the Mongols during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Though the enemy led by Commander Mongka himself had more than ten thousand soldiers, yet, by relying on such a tiny fortress, Yu Jian won brilliant victories, while the Mongolian Commander Mongka and his vanguard General Wang Tege were killed in the war. Mongka distinguished himself in battles and was then called 'the Whip of the God'. However, he was wounded in this battle and died on July 21, 1258. For this reason, fishing town is to the European and Asian historians as “the Place Breaking off the God's Whip”. Consisted of many historical sites, including the wharf for the navy forces, the thrilling ground, the watch towers and a fortification with built-in cannons, fishing town was designated by the State Council as one of the major national cultural and historic sites under State protection.
