The flag of South Ossetia is a tricolour, top to bottom white, red, and yellow. The flag was prescribed by the Constitution of 26 November 1990 and confirmed by the Regulation on the National Flag of 30 March 1992. The flag of North Ossetia-Alania is: a horizontal tricolour of white-red-yellow (not purple).
The middle stripe of its flag is reported as "dark red" or "purple" by Russian vexillologists so that it may be distinguished from the flag of South Ossetia (Georgia) with bright red middle stripe.
