The flag of Uganda was adopted in 1962. It consists of six equal horizontal bands of black (top), yellow, red, black, yellow, and red; a white disk is superimposed at the center and depicts the national symbol, a grey-crowned Crane, facing the hoist side. Allegedly, the three colors are representative of African peoples (black), Africa's sunshine (yellow), and red symbolizing African brotherhood (red being the color of the blood, through which all Africans are connected) [1]. The bird is fabled for its gentle nature and was also the military badge of Ugandese soliders during British rule. The flag's colors are derived from those of the Uganda People's Congress.
