Encyclopedia > Flashbacks

As in film, a flashback in literature is a technique which takes the narrative back in time from the point the story has reached, to recount events that happened before and give the "back-story." It was used extensively by author Ford Madox Ford.

A flashback can also occur in the mind, either voluntarily remembering a past experience, or involuntarily due to a disorder such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or a hallucinogen such as LSD. Flashbacks are often reported years after a subject was exposed to the drug or trauma.

Flashback is also the name of a (highly) controversial Swedish media group (flashback.se, flashback.net, flashback.org) run by Jan Axelsson.

Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a computer game.

Flashback reports the size of the backup directory after adding the new backup so you'll know when it's time to clean up old backups.
Flashback distinguishes multiple backups of the same directory by appending the date and time to the second.
Flashback - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki (1871 words)
En route, he has a flashback of himself as a child holding the hand of a girl hanging from a cliff.
The flashback recurs now with a young Valtane hanging on to the girl, and then again and again with other children — presumably the other hosts the virus has claimed in its lifetime.
"Flashback" was Voyager's tribute to the Original Series and Star Trek's 30th anniversary, recreating many scenes from the feature film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
