Encyclopedia > Flavigny sur Ozerain

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain is a small village on a hilltop in the département of Côte d'Or, région of Burgundy in France.

It's reputed for its aniseed candy (anis de Flavigny). It has a seminar of the Society of St. Pius X (a very traditionalist breakaway branch of the Catholic Church). The movie Chocolat was shot in Flavigny.

This village also has a Benedictine monastery, which is in communion with the Catholic Church. The monks today occupy the same site where a monastery was located from the early Middle Ages to the Revolution. The monks returned in the 1970s. See www.clairval.com.

Flavignys Place de lEglise is a quiet haven dominated instead by the huge, 800-year-old Saint Genest Church.
