IFEX :: Football player assaults sports journalist (388 words)
Maestri apparently arrived at the meeting accompanied by three unidentified individuals and, after a heated argument, threatened to beat up Navarro if he failed to publicly retract his statements.
According to Navarro, Maestri warned him to stop criticising his performance and, in particular, not to get his family involved, or he would have to face the consequences.
In statements to the local media, Maestri confirmed that he had assaulted the journalist, but said the assault was related to a personal issue as the journalist had shown disrespect for him.
