History

Flaw's formation

Flaw formed in 1995 when vocalist Chris Volz answered an ad in a local paper placed by guitarist Jason Daunt looking for a singer for an alternative/industrial band. The band's rhythm section progressed through several lineup changed but solidified with the addition of bassist Ryan Jurhs in 1998. That same year the band recorded their first independent record American Arrogance. Because they were low on money, the band ordered everything they needed to record from the Musician's Friend catalog, then returned it using the 30-day return policy. Their album gave them the opportunity to open for acts including Fear Factory and Econoline Crush. A local radio station, The Fox, broadcasted the songs from Flaw's indie disc, giving them further notoriety. Two more well-received independent records, 1998's self titled album Flaw and 2000's Drama were later produced. Flaw was then signed to Universal/Republic Records in 2000 where they released their debut album, "Through The Eyes" in 2001. The record received rave reviews even by fans who didn't like nu-metal because the album was called very original. The album eventually topped the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, due to good play of their music videos "Payback" and "Whole" on MTV2 and rock radio. They also played Ozzfest in 2002, which also helped their record sales. In 2004, after a long absence, Flaw returned to the studio to begin recording their second album, "Endangered Species". The band had gotten rid of guitarist Jay Daunt and drummer Chris Ballinger, so fans were eagerly awaiting the new release to see if it could match the first one. The first single released off of the album was called "Recognize", which received a decent amount of radio play. A video was supposed to be shot but it never happened. Due to somewhat mediocre promoting, the album debuted at #42 on the Billboard Top 200, selling 27,527 copies in it's first week. The album received mixed reviews from fans, partly due to the softer nature of the album and it being less like Through The Eyes. Flaw was soon dropped by Universal after failing to sell 500,000 copies of both their albums and later broke up. Chris Volz is an American musician based in Louisville, Kentucky. ... Flaw's breakup

Flaw was dropped by their label Universal Records in late 2004. The band's final days left many angry fans venting on the band's message board. They had setup a few shows within their surrounding states, and when the break-up news began to circulate, no one from the band stepped forward to confirm or deny it. Several fans drove hundreds of miles to see the shows only to be told by club managers that the band unexpectedly canceled without notice. The group's website had, at the time, still displayed a notice which read "Flaw is still playing". Universal Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. ...
