Fleetwood is a borough located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 4,018.


Geography

Fleetwood is located at 40°27'17" North, 75°49'8" West (40.454793, -75.818821)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.7 km˛ (1.0 mi˛). 2.7 km˛ (1.0 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,018 people, 1,584 households, and 1,124 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,491.7/km˛ (3,859.7/mi˛). There are 1,623 housing units at an average density of 602.5/km˛ (1,559.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 97.81% White, 0.27% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 1.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,584 households out of which 33.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% are non-families. 22.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the borough the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.2 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $48,621, and the median income for a family is $60,051. Males have a median income of $39,559 versus $26,321 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $21,600. 2.8% of the population and 2.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Fleetwood Limousine was redesigned in 1977 to use the new 144.5 in wheelbase D-body platform.
The Fleetwood Brougham remained on the RWD platform, (which was redesignated as "D-body" for 1985) through 1986.
For 1993, the Fleetwood name was switched from the Deville's front wheel drive C-body to the newly revised rear wheel drive D-body, being one of the first front-wheel drive vehicles to switch to rear-wheel drive.

Fleetwood Grange #1839 was organized in May 1920 and officially chartered on July 23, 1920 with its original meeting hall located in a small building on Richmond street by the railroad line.
It then moved to the 3rd floor of the building that was until recently the home of the Oriole's club, which it shared with seven different other lodges.
The Grange moved to its current location on Moselem Springs road in the 1950's where the Hall was built on a four acre tract of land formerly owned by A.P. Merkel.
