In July 2005 rumours began circulating that Telewest were being pressed to sell the company by the cable company NTL before a long anticipated merger could take place.
A number of companies are thought to be interested in buying Flextech, including UK rivals ITV, Channel 4, the pan-european broadcaster RTL (100% owners of the UK's Five tv channel in the same month, July 2005), Hallmark Entertainment, Time Warner, NBC Universal and Viacom.
