Plot

After the birth of his son, Mel Coplin, who was adopted as a newborn by a Jewish couple, Ed and Pearl Coplin, sets out to find his birth parents, whom he has never met. Mel's wife, Nancy, refuses to give the couple's newborn son a name until he locates his real parents.

Together with Tina, a sexy but highly inefficient adoption agency employee, Mel, Nancy and their baby embark on what turns out to be a tour of the United States. Repeatedly, Mel gets hold of the wrong people. Mel and Nancy first meet Valerie, who mistakes Tina for Mel's wife and Nancy for the nanny. They then meet with a trucker, Fritz Bourdreau, who lets Mel steer his semi-trailer truck, which Mel crashes into a post office. This leads to a run-in with a pair of gay ATF agents, Tony and Paul, who decide to aid Mel in his search.
