Different Kinds of Roses - Floribunda (89 words)
Floribundas came about when a polyantha rose was crossed with a hybrid tea rose.
This was done in an effort to produce roses that were compact and had superior hardiness and disease resistance, something that was found to be lacking with hybrid teas.
Many floribundas produce an excellent display of flowers and are often used as low hedges, in borders, and in containers with other landscape plants.
Floribunda Roses (725 words)
Floribundas are typically lower growing plants than are hybrid teas, and instead of having a single rose blossom at the end of a long stem, it has groups or "sprays" of blossoms.
It is in reference to this quality that the official nomenclature for these roses is "cluster flowered." Because of their abundance, it is usual that the Floribunda rose bears smaller flowers.
Floribundas in their purest, low-growing forms are decended from and closely related to Polyanthas.
