Whoever is elected will serve between January 3, 2007 and January 3, 2013. The incumbent Democratic Senator, Bill Nelson, is running for reelection to a second term. His main opponent at this point is two-term Florida Congresswoman and former Secretary of State Katherine Harris. Most polls clearly indicate wider support for Nelson, a moderate Democrat who is very popular with Florida's conservative electorate.
