Floyd is a town located in Oneida County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,869. The town is named after William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
The Town of Floyd was founded in 1796 from the Town of Steuben.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 90.0 km˛ (34.8 mi˛). 89.6 km˛ (34.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.4 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.46% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,869 people, 1,394 households, and 1,091 families residing in the town. The population density is 43.2/km˛ (111.8/mi˛). There are 1,483 housing units at an average density of 16.5/km˛ (42.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 97.49% White, 0.36% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,394 households out of which 38.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.0% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% are non-families. 17.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.11.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $40,192, and the median income for a family is $44,583. Males have a median income of $33,151 versus $22,718 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,405. 4.2% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.1% of those under the age of 18 and 5.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
