Folklorama originated in 1970 as a one-time event sponsored by the City of Winnipeg to commemorate the 100th birthday of the Province of Manitoba and to showcase the diverse cultural heritage of the people who settled in Manitoba and Canada.
Although Folklorama has grown in size and stature since its creation in 1970, it has managed to retain the true essence of the festival taking pride in and sharing one's unique cultural heritage.
Folklorama was the recipient of seven Pinnacle Awards for festival promotion from the International Festivals and Festival Events Associations for the 1997 and 1998 campaign
