Asia and Oceania The qualification was also composed of three Rounds, and somewhat like CAF's qualification reversed. First, Australia, Japan and South Korea formed a group (North Korea would be in this group too, but withdrew) and played against each other twice. Team with most points in this group would advance to the Second Round. In the Second Round, the four teams (winner of First Round plus the other three) were paired 2-by-2 and played two knockout matches each. The winners advanced to the Final Round. In the Final Round, the two teams played against each other home-and-away. The team with most points would qualify to the World Cup.
