Encyclopedia > Force Variation Machine

Radial tires can produce vibrations which cannot be rectified by adding balance weights to the rim. Instead these vibrations are due to variations in stiffness around the tire.

Recognising this, the Tire Manufacturers, together with the Vehicle Manufacturers developed machines which could measure these variations. They were measured as Radial Force Variation RFV, and Lateral Force Variation

These machines were developed in USA by ASM and in Europe by Hoffmann of Germany.
