Ford is a city located in Ford County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 314.


Geography

Ford is located at 37°38'10" North, 99°45'11" West (37.635977, -99.753013)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 314 people, 111 households, and 87 families residing in the city. The population density is 288.7/km˛ (748.3/mi˛). There are 121 housing units at an average density of 111.2/km˛ (288.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 94.90% White, 0.00% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.50% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 10.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 111 households out of which 36.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.6% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.26.


In the city the population is spread out with 30.3% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 113.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 112.6 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $34,545, and the median income for a family is $36,346. Males have a median income of $27,917 versus $11,944 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,037. 9.7% of the population and 8.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.8% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Ford County is the southwesternmost (sic) organized county of Kansas, embracing Townships 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 of Ranges 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26, being thirty miles from north to south and thirty-six miles from east to west, possessing an area of 1,080 square miles.
Ford County was at first the One Hundred and Third Representative District; by the Legislative apportionment of 1876, it became the One Hundred and Twenty-second; by that of 1881, it was the One Hundred and Eighteenth District.
The site of the Ford County court house is a beautiful one, standing on the rise north from Broadway, where the beautiful valley of the Arkansas is seen for miles east and west of the city.
