The CD4E was designed by FORD. Unlike almost any other automatic transmission on the face of the planet, the oil pickup filter is only accessable after removal and disassembly of the transmission. Because the oil pickup filter is a fibre type panel element, rather than a wire gauze strainer like most other transmission filters it can become blocked more easily, causing all kinds of problems. Due to the questionable engineering of this particular transmission, ones motoring experience can only benefit from avoiding the purchase of any vehicle fitted with this type of transmission.
