It was similar in appearance to the more popular Ford Anglia, featuring the distinctive reverse-rake rear windsceen. The Consul Classic was also mechanically similar to the Anglia, and used slightly larger 1340 cc and 1498 cc variants of the Ford Kent Engine. The car had front disc brakes and was fitted with a four speed gearbox with synchromesh on all gears on the 1500 version. The Consul Classic was the first car of Beatle Paul McCartney who briefly owned a Goodwood Green Four Door Standard Model. Former Prime Minister Harold Wilson owned a Windsor Grey Model and the Duchess of Kent had an Ambassidor Blue Four Door Deluxe car. Also the first car of Ray Baker, who owned and greatly loved a 1500 version four door in Goodwood Green.
