Fordoche is a town located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 933.

Geography

Fordoche is located at 30°35'29" North, 91°36'31" West (30.591445, -91.608546)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.3 km² (2.4 mi²). 6.3 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 933 people, 341 households, and 285 families residing in the town. The population density is 148.2/km² (383.8/mi²). There are 361 housing units at an average density of 57.4/km² (148.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 90.68% White, 8.57% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 341 households out of which 37.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.4% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.4% are non-families. 13.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $36,364, and the median income for a family is $40,313. Males have a median income of $32,400 versus $21,146 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,223. 14.8% of the population and 12.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.6% of those under the age of 18 and 20.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
