Forest Hill, now part of the City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was incorporated as a village in 1923. Its original boundaries were Bathurst Street to the west, Upper Canada College to the east, Eglinton Avenue to the north, and Lonsdale Road and a portion of Montclair Avenue to the south (the original boundaries of School Section 30). Forest Hill Village is a part of Forest Hill occupying most of the original area of the village. The Village extends roughly from Eglinton Avenue in the north (the Upper Village) to Heath Street in the south (the Lower Village) along Spadina Road between Bathurst Street/Cedarvale Ravine (whichever is further east) and Avenue Road. The designations Upper and Lower are based on height of land and not on positions on a map or along a watercourse.

The Lower Village is known for its upscale shopping and dining, although the actual mix of stores includes several modest enterprises. The Lower Village has attracted extensive residential development (especially of apartments), both within the original boundaries of Forest Hill and in adjacent neighbourhoods to which developers have now extended the Village and Forest Hill names.

The "Jmac" hairstyle was reportedly started in Forest Hill. The haircut includes shaggy hair that at some points cover both the ears and eyebrows. The style has gained in popularity among the Jewish -Asian population of Canada.

Jeffery "Pudge" Aidelman, self-proclaimed Forest Hill socialite and entrepeneur, has been at the forefront of numerous Forest Hill social events over the years and is one of the many well known characters around “The Village.”

Moshe Modeira is a mysterious underworld persona renown in Forest Hill lore. Beloved by some and hated by others, he has reportedly been involved in countless occasions of racketeering, extortion, grand larceny and a plethora of other felonies. Of Ethiopian and Moroccan heritage, his legacy saw its greatest heights in the late 1990s. His exact whereabouts have been in question since 2001. Reportedly, this mercurial character still surfaces from time to time in the area.
