Primarily, the suburb has been comprised of low density housing. However, with the recent expansion of the Forestville Shopping Centre and the construction of medium density apartments along the edge of Warringah Road, this has gradually begun to change. There are many schools in and around Forestville. The nearest high school is Killarney Heights High School, but there are other high schools nearby such as Forest High School which is near to Frenchs Forest and Davidson High School which is located in Davidson. Local businesses thrive in the recently redeveloped local shopping centre and nearby Forestway shopping centre. Flora and fauna thrive in nearby national parks such as Davidson National Park and Garigal National Park.Forestville has a big intersection leading into the school,Forestville Public School. Sporting facilities in Forestville include sporting fields and netball courts which local teams such as Forest Killarney Soccer Club, Forest Killarney Netball Club and Forest Rugby Club call home ground.
