Forman Christian College is one of the oldest and highest ranking colleges of South Asia, founded by Dr. Charles William Forman who arrived in India in 1847 and, two years later, settled in Lahore in north India (now Pakistan). In 1987, after a prolonged legal struggle, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled that the nationalization process was illegal. Other legal claims to the College or its property were, eventually, defeated and the control of Forman Christian College was transferred to the Presbyterian Church (USA). The College is now considered to be in the private sector. After privatization, the responsibility for the financial and administrative management of the College was entrusted to the FCC Board of Governors, whose members are nominated by the various Christian communities of Pakistan.
