Fort Polk North is a census-designated place and town located in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,279.


Geography

Fort Polk North is located at 31°6'13" North, 93°10'7" West (31.103611, -93.168617)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 21.0 km˛ (8.1 mi˛). 21.0 km˛ (8.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,279 people, 1,076 households, and 1,039 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 155.9/km˛ (403.7/mi˛). There are 1,126 housing units at an average density of 53.5/km˛ (138.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 62.89% White, 21.29% African American, 1.34% Native American, 2.07% Asian, 0.55% Pacific Islander, 5.12% from other races, and 6.74% from two or more races. 11.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,076 households out of which 67.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 91.5% are married couples living together, 4.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 3.4% are non-families. 3.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.10.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 36.2% under the age of 18, 20.8% from 18 to 24, 42.2% from 25 to 44, 0.7% from 45 to 64, and 0.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.2 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $31,921, and the median income for a family is $32,037. Males have a median income of $25,729 versus $19,044 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $11,425. 10.2% of the population and 8.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.7% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
