The tornado passed through the west side of Fort Worth at about 6:18 p.m. It tore a 4-mile (5-km) path through the city blowing out windows in many of the high-rises downtown, and destroyed one office building and a church. The tornado dissipated around 6:28 p.m., and at its worst, was approximately one-quarter mile (0.4 km), and caused damage equal to F3 on the Fujita scale. Two people were killed by the tornado and 80 were injured, but only six seriously. The heavy rain and hail that followed the tornado damaged many interior areas which were exposed by the tornado's winds. The storm spawned another tornado which moved across Arlington and Grand Prairie. This second tornado did damage along a mile-wide residential area leaving over 80 people homeless.
