In 1998, Will Harvey, a Stanford computer science Ph.D. and successful game developer, began working with Jeffrey Ventrella, an expert on artificial life from MIT's Media Lab, on developing a next-generation "metaverse." With more than 80 employees, There, Inc. brings together deep experience in online community building, consumer marketing, PC games, telecommunications, and e-commerce from major companies.
Since its inception, There has raised approximately $37 million - including $20 million from employees, and $6 million from Sutter Hill Ventures, a respected venture capital firm founded in 1962 with investments from Stanford, Princeton and Yale.
