Captain Foster Fyans came to Geelong as a Police magistrate in October, 1837. Prior, he was acting commandant of Norfolk Island in 1834. Fyans camped at a location close to the Barwon River. The area became known as Fyansford, now a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The Fyansford Hotel is located nearby to the site of Fyan's first camp.
