Shuttleworth's somewhat shy and retiring character meant that he was more than happy to avoid the limelight and let the firm take full credit for his designs - and in truth these highly technical buildings require the input from a large team of individuals and no one person can take all the credit. This project continues Foster and Partners practice of designing contemporary interventions in historic structures that began with the New German Parliament at the Reichstag and the Great Court of the British Museum, and has recently been explored in a high-rise context with the Hearst Tower in New York.
Foster and Partners is an international studio for architecture, planning and design led by Norman Foster and a group of Senior Partners.
Norman Foster’s philosophy of integration can be seen in the way the practice’s London design studio works; it is essentially one large open space, shared equally by everyone, and free of subdivisions to encourage good communication between the many people who come together there.
