A little known fact about the 'Four Heatons' is that there used to be Five Heatons! The fifth Heaton was Heaton Reddish* and was so called until the early to mid nineteenth century when it dropped its Heaton prefix and became just Reddish.


All of the Heatons (including Heaton Reddish) were originally a subset of Heaton Norris, the then ecclesiastical centre of the area.


Due to its suburban affluence, the area is very popular with commuters and young professionals, resulting in a large rise in house prices. The area has numerous parks, shops and amenties. Café culture has become notable in the area with the opening of numerous bistros. This is following the trend of other up and coming localities such as East Didsbury.
