Fourth, Aristotle is apparently the first to define the three kinds of speech, each with its distinctive focus: deliberative, focusing on the good,judicial on the just, and epideictic on the beautiful.
The fourth century is not just the age of the full development of technical rhetoric; it also produced great speeches.
These were immensely popular, and in the second century A.D. they produced the cultural and political phenomenon known as the Second Sophistic, with star performers who attracted crowds in the thousands and represented their cities in diplomatic negotiations even with the emperor.
