Henry was born in The Hague to Louis Nassau (illegitimate son of Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange) and his wife Elizabeth van Hoorn. He was baptised there on 16 December 1640. He married his wife, Frances van Aerssen, at The Hague on 2 October 1667, and resided afterwards in London, notable the House at the back, which later became 10 Downing Street.
