    Francisco Cordero (born May 11, 1975 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Major League Baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds. Cordero, whose nickname is "Coco", has filled the closer role for the Reds, after leaving the interdivision rival Brewers. Cordero throws a hard fastball—capable of reaching the upper 90s, and also has an excellent slider that he can throw for strikes early in the count, and which he uses as his outpitch.     He was acquired after the 1999 season from the Detroit Tigers in a multi-player deal for Juan González. Cordero was the last player from that trade to play with the Rangers. Coco had his most dominant year in 2004, making the AL All-Star team, but he blew some crucial saves late in September of that year to keep the Rangers from advancing to the playoffs. After blowing a team record five saves in April 2006, Cordero was removed from the closer role and replaced with Akinori Otsuka, before being traded to the Brewers at the trading deadline.     According to reports Cordero has reached a 4 year $46 million dollar contract with the Cincinnati Reds. It is said that in his home in the Dominican Republic that he hinted that the Reds offered him a deal. Reds General Manager Wayne Krivsky has not officially announced that Cordero has been signed. It is rumored that he will be closer, with either David Weathers or Jared Burton as the setup man.
