Frank "Fingers" Abbandando Jr. was the son of Murder Inc. hitman Frank Abbandando born c.a. 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. In Frank Jr.'s younger years he was a very obvious Tom Jones look-alike. Joe Ianuzzi said that when he knew Frank Fingers, he looked like James Caan when he starred as Santino Corleone from The Godfather. Junior Abbandando left New York in the 1970's and was said to have earned his money as a loan-shark, drug-trafficker and gambler, and had a reputation as an enforcer. He gravitated between the Lucchese, Gambino and Colombo crime families, all of whom had empires in and around Miami. He had been an associate of Gerald Francis Chilli, alleged to be a Bonanno captain, who had gone to prison on a federal racketeering charges from the Donnie Brasco investigation. Murder, Inc. ...

Franky Fingers Frank earned the nickname after he was involved in an arguement with a capo in the Colombo crime family. During the dispute an extremely angered Frank signaled capo with a middle finger, or two. Following the incident the capo ordered the removal of of Junior's middle fingers as punishment. Joseph Iannuzzi a Miami based Gambino who later became an FBI informant reports this in his autobiography Joe Dogs: The Life and Times of a Mobster. He told agents that Frank's middle fingers had been cut off with a none-to-sharp knife and sent back to Fort Lauderdale in vinegar. The usual punishment for angered a capo would be death, so Frank lucked out. Aniello Napolitano & Abbandando Jr. Frank "Fingers" became friends with the then-late capo Dominick Napolitano murdered in 1982 relative Aniello "Neil" Napolitano, a small-time drug dealer. Aniellos saw Abbandando Jr. as his passport into what was left of the Florida Mafia. Aniello had a criminal brother named Rocco. Aniello had begun to snuggle up to Junior Abbandando in clubs such as Party Girls, a nude bar on Biscayne Boulevard. The police were convinced Aniello was dealing in steroids, and suspected him of murdering two associates. Two men had been arrested with Aniello for dealing narcotics, but shortly thereafter disappeared. The police had a female officer assigned to go undercover, but she was apparently swept away by Aniello's charm. She was alleged to have blown her cover by taking Aniello to her office in the Miami-Dade police department. The officer was later assigned to a desk job. Suddenly Aniello's dismembered corpse washed ashore on Miami Beach in September 1995. External links An Archetypal Mob Trial: Its Just Like in the Movies, The New York Times, May 23, 2004. ...

According to police they were by no means convinced that Abbandando Jr. had either killed Napolitano, or ordered his murder. The authorities said even though the mobster could have had Aniello killed, it is unlikely. They did not even bring Abbandando in for questioning as a suspect.
Like Father, Like Son On December 22nd 1995 the then-aged sixty year old Abbandando was run over on Biscayne Boulevard. This was no accident, however. His killer, dressed all in black and wearing a ski mask, exited his vehicle and shot him a number of times. The killer was Aniello's brother, Rocco. Rocco Napolitano allegedly replied, "I'm the one that shot him", after the police arrested him shortly afterward. Rocco told them it was revenge for the killing of his brother Aniello.
