Frank Cameron Jackson (born 1943) is a professor of philosophy at the Australian National University. Jackson is well-known within philosophy for his paper "Epiphenomenal Qualia", in which he presents an argument against physicalism, the thesis that everything supervenes on the kinds of entities postulated in physics. The view that Jackson urges is a more modest version of variant of Thomas Huxley's epiphenomenalism. On this view, some mental states are non-physical and, although caused to come into existence by physical events, do not then cause any changes in the physical world. 1943 (MCMXLIII) is a common year starting on Friday. ...
