Career at WJAR

Coletta joined WJAR as an assignment editor in 1978. From there he became a general assignment reporter in 1981. Shortly thereafter, Coletta moved behind the anchor desk. In 1985, he was named News Sunrise anchor, where he remains to this day. He has been the recipient of many awards from media and civic organizations.

On-Air

Coletta is often viewed as taking a friendly approach to anchoring the news. Viewers have come to enjoy his early morning upbeat smile and dry sense of humor. Daily, he will give a "coffee cup salute" to local businesses in the viewing area. Also each morning, Coletta presents a segment called "Flashback" where he will reexamine news events in Rhode Island's past with archived WJAR coverage. Much of the work for this segment is researched himself, sometimes requiring help from the Rhode Island Historical Society, which houses much of the older WJAR video library.

Outside of Television
