Frank(ert) Kahlil Wheaton was born in Los Angeles, California, the oldest of two children of James Wheaton, an actor and educator, and Helen Alford, a homemaker, who would later have a career in civil service. He was named Frankert after his maternal grandmother Frankie Clement Alford and his maternal aunt, Earline, but was commonly known as Frank. His middle name comes from the poet, Kahlil Gibran. As a grown man, he would alternately be known as either Frank or Kahlil. Having grown up in Compton, Mr. Wheaton has always been an avid supporter of the city. Despite its recent image in the media as a crime ridden community overwhelmed by poverty and gang violence, while speaking in public, he often refers to Compton as "athletically fertile," pointing out that numerous top athletes have at one time called Compton their home. For two consecutive years, he produced the James Worthy All-Star Basketball Clinic at Compton Community College. Much more than just a basketball camp, this clinic exposed children to a wide array of motivational speakers, who helped to open up new vistas for the nearly 2000 participants in the program. Compton Community College is a public two-year college established in 1927, located in Compton, California. ...
It was only a natural outgrowth of Mr. Wheaton's love for Compton that he would go on to serve as Compton's official spokesman. During his four-year stint in that position, he tried to add perceptive and understanding to the challenges faced by Compton. After an unsuccessful run for a seat on the Compton City Council, he returned to private life. He continues to represent a diverse group of clients, including Essie Mae Williams, who made national news when she revealed that she was former Senator Strom Thurmond's daughter. Despite a busy schedule representing his clients, Mr. Wheaton also teaches Entertainment Law and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker. A divorced father and step-father, Mr. Wheaton is as passionate about his family as he is about his career.
