Frank Lowy AC (born 1930) is a Jewish Australian businessman. Born in the former Czechoslovakia he is best known for his co-founding and continuing involvement with global giant,The Westfield Group owning dozens of shopping centres internationally. Lowy migrated to Australia and started working as a construction worker, Business Review Weekly [1] measured his wealth in 2005 at A$4.8bn which makes him Australia's second richest person, behind Kerry Packer on A$6.9bn and ahead of Richard Pratt on A$4.7bn. More recently he has become involved with the newly created Football Federation Australia, which has replaced the now defunct Soccer Australia. In 2003 he set up the Lowy Institute for International Policy, an international policy think tank. Lowy still chooses to take a salary from Westfield, receiving A$14.7m in 2003/04 [2]. He defends this through his large donations and grants, such as his multi million dollar donation to the Lowy Institute in 2003.
