Encyclopedia > Frank Thring

Frank Thring (May 11, 1926 - December 29, 1994) was an Australian actor. In a career spanning over 35 years, perhaps his most famous role was that of Pontius Pilate in the 1959 movie Ben-Hur.

Frank Thring (103 words)
Forceful Australian stage actor Frank Thring averaged about one movie appearance per year after his 1958 debut in A Question of Adultery.
Eminently suited for Biblical roles--especially those calling for a touch of weary condescension--Thring was seen as Pontius Pilate in Ben Hur (1959) and as Herod Antipas in The King of Kings.
Children of the sixties will remember Frank Thring as the hissable sometimes villain in the Australian TV series Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo (1969).
