As an accomplished player of the drums, trumpet and piano, Frank Vincent originally intended on a career in music, but in 1975, he starred in the low-budget gangster movie, The Death Collector along with Joe Pesci, where he was spotted by Martin Scorsese. Scorsese was impressed and hired Vincent to star in Raging Bull which saw him link up once again with Pesci. The two would go on to star in several other movies; another familiar co-star and good friend of Vincent is Robert De Niro. Vincent is often typecast as a gangster, the most recent example being The Sopranos where he plays New York Boss Phil Leotardo. Vincent caught the eye of filmgoers in Scorcese's 1990 film Goodfellas, where he played Billy Batts, a 'made guy' celebrating his return from a long prison stint only to meet the wrath of Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) and Jimmy Conway (Robert DeNiro). Vincent's Billy Batts met his demise in Goodfellas when he uttered the line "Now go home and get your fuckin' shinebox!" to a humiliated DeVito (Pesci), who returned to the club later in the evening to get revenge. Vincent also played a prominent role as gangster Frankie Marino in Scorsese's 1995 film Casino, which saw him exact his revenge upon Joe Pesci, who played Nicky Santoro and his brother Dominick (Philip Suriano) by burying them alive in a cornfield in Indiana after brutally beating them with a baseball bat. In the television movie, Gotti, Vincent played Robert DeBinardo, an associate of Mafia boss John Gotti, whose life the film chronicled.
