Frankfort is a village located in Herkimer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,537.


The Village of Frankfort is in the Town of Frankfort.


Geography

Frankfort is located at 43°2'14" North, 75°4'18" West (43.037267, -75.071879)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km˛ (1.0 mi˛). 2.6 km˛ (1.0 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.96% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,537 people, 1,088 households, and 698 families residing in the village. The population density is 979.5/km˛ (2,528.4/mi˛). There are 1,157 housing units at an average density of 446.7/km˛ (1,153.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.71% White, 0.04% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,088 households out of which 29.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% are married couples living together, 14.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.8% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.92.


In the village the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 83.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.8 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $25,925, and the median income for a family is $35,938. Males have a median income of $28,869 versus $22,238 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,381. 15.5% of the population and 13.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.9% of those under the age of 18 and 7.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
