Frankie Faison, often credited as Frankie R. Faison is one of those actors which many people may recognise, but not know his name. He was born in Newport News, Virginia, USA on the 10th June 1949. Faison is 6'2" and he studied drama at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. He is married to Jane Mandel. Faison started his acting career in 1974 in the TV series King Lear, which is based on the William Shakespeare play. Faison plays the role of Captain, along side James Earl Jones, who plays King Lear. Faison's next role came in TV, in the small series Hot Hero Sandwich in 1979. Faison did make it to the big screen in 1980, when he appeared in Permanent Vacation however he was credited in the film as 'Man in Lobby'. a string of small role followed, until 1986 when he played the part of Lt. Fisk in Manhunter. In 1988 he stared along side Eddie Murphy and again James Earl Jones in Coming to America, when he played the Landlord. Another big break came for Faison when he appeared as 'Barney' in the classic thriller Silence of the Lambs. Silence of the Lambs would later bring more work Faisons way, as he laters appears as Barney in sequal (Hannibal) and the prequel (Red Dragon). In silence of the Lambs Faison gets the opportunity to work with legendary actors, such as Anthony Hopkins and Ted Levine. In 1991 Faison again appears alongside Hopkins in the film Freejack, which also stars Mick Jagger and Emilio Estevez. Frankie R. Faison - Biography - Moviefone (334 words)
Faison developed the acting bug while in grade school after appearing in a school play, and after high school he was a theater student at both Illinois Wesleyan University and New York University.
Faison made his film debut in 1981 with a small role in Ragtime, and Faison soon began supplementing his stage work with small parts in motion pictures and guest shots on television.
In 1990, Faison scored the male lead in a short-lived sitcom, True Colors, and in 1991 he appeared in another adaptation of a Thomas Harris novel when he was cast as Barney Matthews, the big but gentle male nurse in The Silence of the Lambs.
