The racial makeup of the city is 97.51% White, 0.82% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The city is in the Franklin City and Carlisle Local School Districts. Telephone service is provided through the Franklin exchange.
