The original Franklin Park Conservatory opened in 1895, and was renovated and enlarged in 1989, bringing its total size to 57,000 square feet, including both greenhouses and classrooms. The Victorian glasshouse, now called the Palm House, is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2004 the conservatory added a major collection of glass artworks by Dale Chihuly.
