Frankston South, on the Frankston Peninsula is typically an upper, middle-class place compared to the counterpart of Frankston North (commonly referred to as The Pines) and is usually referred to as including some of the area east of Frankston CBD as well. Comprised of areas like Mt Erin, Eliza Hights and others, Frankston South has been a popular place for many years for raising families in a suburban setting. Schools like Overport Primary, Derinya Primary, Frankston High, Mt Erin Secondary Collage, and the Monash University Peninsula Campus can all be found in the Frankston South area. Travel around the streets of Frankston South tends to be relatively simple, either by car, public transport or even by foot, as the Moorooduc Highway cuts straight through the centre of the area. A Parks Victoria area in the Frankston region is the Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve, which during the summer recently sufferred a major fire that could be seen from the bay. It has since been revegetated and has many walking paths available to visitors. All open service reservoirs in the Melbourne Water system are in the process of being covered or replaced with closed water storage tanks. This is due to water quality in open air reservoirs that can be adversely affected by contamination caused by animals, birds and plant growth. Australian Drinking Water Guidelines recommend that all service reservoirs be prevented contamination. Melbourne Water has replaced Frankston Reservoir with a 53 million litre covered steel tank as of October 2005. [Information from [1]] |
